Miaouli Square

The central square of Ermoupolis, the heart of the whole island. Here locals and tourists will walk, discuss, laugh. It is the place you will be every night as its lighting and its bars create a magical atmosphere. It is one of the most rare squares in Greece, in a 19th century design, with clear influences from the standards of large Italian cities.

Originally it was called Othonos Square in honor of the King, after the fall of the King, it was renamed to Leotsakos square in honor of the chief of the military Nikos Leotsakos.

At the side of the square you will see the statue of Andreas Miaoulis, whose name was given to the square in 1889. The palm trees surrounding the square give an exotic tone, which in combination with the surrounding buildings creates a magical atmosphere.
